Auto Routing

The Auto Routing has been covered in Entering Your First Mileage. Please refer to that section for details on the Auto routing. Once you have the first trip exported to Miles future exports will simply involved -

CLICK THE COMPLETE LINK -
CONFIRM YOU WANT TO EXPORT THE MILES -

IF YOU HAVE ZIP CODES PROVIDE THEM, IF YOU DON'T LEAVE THE BLANK -

THE PROGRAM WILL THEN RUN THE ROUTE AND ASK YOU TO COFIRM THE EXPORT -

Confirming your export at this point is extremely important. It is difficult to make changes later so the time to catch and error in the routing is NOW before it's exported. If you look at the route and determine that you actually traveled in a state that is not listed, or that a state is listed that you did not travel in you need to click CANCEL and export this route manually. Failure to do this no could result in your needing to delete and re-export a large number of mileages.

PLEASE DO NOT COMPLAIN LATER WHEN YOU FIND OUT IT'S A LOT OF WORK TO FIX AN ERROR YOU DIDN'T CATCH NOW!! We have provided the tool to check the route as you export it. If you are rushed and don't have time to check it now, wait on clicking the COMPLETE button until you do have time to do it right.

The final popup is the export complete and the final hub reading for the trip. Check this against your odometer. It will be off - this is expected, but it should be off less than 10% of the miles traveled if the routing is correct. If it's off by more than that then check the routing. The time to find the error is now, while this is the last trip in miles and can be easily corrected. We will correct the cumulative errors for the quarter at the end of the quarter with the APPORTION function. But major differences need to be corrected when they occur.

If you want to keep EXACT mileages for all trips, then please use the Manual Entry process. Auto Routing, is a great time saver and the mileages generated are acceptable for IFTA reporting, especially if you use Apportion each quarter to keep the book miles and odometer miles in synch. But no routing program is going to give you exact odometer matching mileages. We do have a live tracking option in the planning stages, watch the Announcements section in the program for details when this is released.
