Routing Options are set here.
MAP OPTIONS -
DISPLAY MAP: Tells the program whether to display the map when a route is run. Default is ON and we suggest leaving it on as a quick glance at the map can show you a possible error in the routing. The graphic is usually easier to spot something that 'doesn't look right' than the driving directions which are too detailed to spot issues without looking at it carefully.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS: Will be shown whether this box is checked or not. Checking the box does not have any effect on showing the Driving Directions.
PICK LIST: The Pick List is the ZIP CODE list that appears when you are entering a load and exit the Zip Code both without entering a zip code. If you check this box the Pick List will appear AND a zip code will always be required to enter a trip. If you uncheck it the box will not appear and zip codes will not be required to enter a load.
ROUTING OPTIONS -
PRACTICAL: This is the Pro Miles practical routing method. The program will compare time & distance and pick the most practical way to go. This is generally the fastest way to get from point A to point B.
INTERSTATE: The program will run the route with a STRONG preference for interstates. This does not mean it will totally exclude smaller roads, but it will rarely run the truck on a smaller road if an interstate is also available.
SHORTEST: This will give you the SHORTEST route. Generally the shortest route is also the longest route time wise. This is because you are running on smaller roads with lowered speed limits. For IFTA mileage it's strongly recommended that you avoid using this option. Auditors will generally question routing that is using SHORTEST and will make you prove that this is the way the trucks actually ran. Proof is Fuel Receipts, Drivers Logs, etc.
REDUCE TOLLS: The name explains the use. When this is checked the program will use the Practical method for routing with a strong preference for non-toll roads. It may still occasionally run on a toll road but generally only when there is not other truck approved route for getting where it needs to go.
OPEN BORDER: This tells the program whether to open the border when running a load. For example from the Northeast it may be practical to run through Canada on the way west. If Open Border is on it will do that, if Open Border is off it will run around Canada. If you do travel to CANADA you will need to have this option on for the program to route load across the border.
