CONTRACTOR/BROKERED LOADS

A Brokered load occurs when you hire an outside company or individual who runs under their own authority to deliver a load that you have accepted and cannot, for whatever reason, have one of your trucks run for you.

A Contractor is a third party who runs under his own authority. This can be a large company or a single truck owner/operator. The key is that they run under their own authority. Do not confuse an owner/operator who runs under your authority with a contractor, they are two different things.

You should enter any contractors that you plan to use in your Address Book ahead of time. You can add the contractor when the load is assigned to him if necessary, it's just easier to have them entered ahead of time to insure that you have all the required information.

This section will follow the process from Assigning the load to completing the contract and show you how to edit the contract and load assignment.

Loads that are to be brokered are entered like any other load with the exception of the LOADS (Pickup & Delivery) page. Here you will assign the load to TRUCK & TRAILER number N/A. Please refer to the BOOKING/BILLING and the PICKUP & DELIVERY sections for details on entering the load. This section will assume that the load is entered and assigned to truck & trailer N/A. It will start with Assigning the load to the Contractor who will pick it up and deliver it.

Note: generally Brokered Loads use the contractors trailer and so the trailer number is left as N/A. If however you are putting a contractor under your own trailer then the trailer number should be used to keep the program current on the trailer location.
